System Benefits
The long term performance of Safekit Heat Shrinkable joints and terminations are guaranteed through selective cross linked and expanded polyolefin heat shrinkable components. They posses exceptional resistance to prolonged electrical stresses, weathering and have non-tracking properties. They are capable of being shrunk down quickly to fit and seal a cable using commonly available blow lamps or gas torches.
The high shrink ratios of heat shrinkable components enable one kit to accommodate varying cable sizes and tolerances. The components, wherever required are coated with anti-tracking hot melt adhesives and sealants to protect the cable from the harmful affects of moisture, water, dust and other atmospheric pollution. The heat shrinkable components meet the' requirements of ESI-09-13.The joints and terminations can been ergised immediately after installation.
Electrical Stress Control
The specific electrical problem in a termination or a joint is found at the point between the high grade solid electrical insulation of the cable and gaseous insulant air, which has a significantly lower dielectric strength. In order to achieve sufficient insulation clearance, the shield of the cable must be removed below the end of the core.
This produces in admissibly high field intensities at the cut end of the insulation shield which must be eliminated by means of a special measure. The field of at the screen cut is controlled by heat shrinkable stress control tube having adequate volume resistivity and dielectric constant and when applied to the cable, the corona extinction level ensures reliable performance of the joints and the terminations.
